Adaptive and Maladaptive Dissociation: An Epidemiological and Anthropological Comparison and Proposition for an Expanded Dissociation Model

چکیده

Dissociation is the psychological aspect of stress response. It is an adaptive reaction to a stressor on a short-term basis but can be maladaptive if underor overutilized and comprises the partitioning of consciousness, ranging from barely to rigidly partitioned. Current means of measuring dissociation focus primarily on DSM-IV-TR Dissociative Disorders and do not sufficiently account for adaptive sub-clinical forms or maladaptive under-dissociating. These measures of pathology are not useful for determining how well-adapted a population is to stress— i.e., how well dissociation is generally put to use. The purpose of this paper is: (1) to analyze the general population and university student studies that have been conducted using current epidemiological methods of assessing dissociation in sub-clinical populations; and (2) to compare and contrast anthropological and epidemiological models of dissociation. An alternative method for assessing dissociation that synthesizes these two views is proposed. keywords : adaptation, dissociation, dissociative disorders, stress response, well-being

Quantum mechanics investigation of acid dissociation constant of carboxylic acids in aqueous solution

According to the Bronsted definition, any compound which has a hydrogen atom is an acid, since itmay be lost as a proton. A thermodynamical cycle is proposed to calculate absolute pKa values forBronsted acids in aqueous solution. The equilibrium of dissociation of a Bronsted acid depends onthe interaction of the acid and its conjugate base with solvent molecules. There fore the pKa valuedepends...

The Effect of Cu Impurity on the CO-dissociation Mechanism on the Fe (100) Surface: A Full Potential DFT Study

In this study, the theoretical calculations of CO dissociation were carried out on Cu-Fe alloy surface by a full-potential method, which made more accurate results especially on the prediction of adsorption energies. This process may be governed by either a direct route or a H-assisted via HCO and COH intermediates pathways. In comparison to the pure surface Fe (100), the presence of Cu atom en...

A Fugacity Approach for Prediction of Phase Equilibria of Methane Clathrate Hydrate in Structure H

In this communication, a thermodynamic model is presented to predict the dissociation conditions of structure H (sH) clathrate hydrates with methane as help gas. This approach is an extension of the Klauda and Sandler fugacity model (2000) for prediction of phase boundaries of sI and sII clathrate hydrates. The phase behavior of the water and hydrocarbon system is modeled using the Peng-Robinso...
